Skills Development Awards

The VNI offers education and training awards as part of its commitment to building neurotrauma-research capacity and skills within Victoria. These awards provide opportunities for new and early career researchers or clinicians to attend short courses designed to develop research skills, in areas such as grant writing, research methodology, biostatistics and clinical trial design.

VNI Skill Development Awards are a $60,000 commitment to fund 30 awards (ten per annum) within Victoria. Ten such awards were offered in 2008 and another ten awards will be offered for a second year.  These awards are offered to a maximum value of $2,000 per course.

In 2008 the following individuals received VNI Skill Development Awards for pursue short courses to enhance their research capacity in neurotrauma:

  • Ms Jacqueline Anderson, Clinical Neuroscience Research Neuroimaging & Disease Applications 
  • Dr David Berlowitz, Designing and Conducting Clinical Trials
  • Ms Susan Berney, Research Management (as part of the Training Fellowship)
  • Ms Senem Eren, Clinical Neuroscience Research - Neuroimaging & Disease Applications Part 2 
  • Ms Jane Galvin,  Epidemiology and Analytic Methods 1 & 2 (as part of the Training Fellowship)
  • Dr Evrim March, Introduction to Neuroimaging for Clinical Researchers
  • Mr David Nayagam, Australian and New Zealand Surgical Skills Education and Training (ASSET)           
  • Ms Lisa O'Brien, Introduction to Epidemiology & Introductory Biostatistics
  • Ms Cheryl Soo, Building Predictive Models                                  
  • Ms Jo Spong, Good Clinical Practice for Research Professionals

The Skill Development Awards have been developed following consultation with the Victorian neurotrauma community.
