Governance and Committees

Board of Directors

The Board is charged with setting the strategic direction of the VNI. The Board also considers recommendations for research funding from the Evaluation Committee and is responsible for approving VNI research funding.

Evaluation Committee

The Evaluation Committee (EC) formulates recommendations for funding to the VNI Board of Directors. These recommendations are based on review of submitted applications and the content of expert scientific reviews of those applications. The EC is composed of individuals with strong scientific, clinical and health policy knowledge and experience. They provide a broad level of scientific review and evaluation of funding applications submitted to VNI. This evaluation is undertaken relative to the VNI objectives and grant specific criteria. The Current EC members have diverse backgrounds, including health policy and disability services, epidemiology and community medicine, biomedical and neuroscience research.

Scientific Advisory Committee

The VNI Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) is comprised of Victorian and Australian experts in neurotrauma and the broader neurosciences. The SAC acts as a bridge between the VNI and the scientific community. The SAC also provides the VNI with access to local, national and international expertise in neurotrauma. The SAC is a key group involved in establishing the strategic direction and vision for the VNI, particularly in the promotion of a broad spectrum of research across neurotrauma. Members of the SAC have substantial research track records within their area of expertise, and represent a broad spectrum of the Traumatic Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury research community.

Executive

The VNI's day-to-day activities are managed by an Executive group comprised of six full-time staff. The Executive also supports the activities of the Board of Management and the Committees reporting to the Board.
