About

Established in 2005 with funding from the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development (DIIRD), the VNI was incorporated as a Pty Ltd in November 2006. The company is governed by a Board of Directors which receives advice and recommendations from an Evaluation Committee, a Scientific Advisory Committee and the VNI Executive.

The VNI seeks to enhance coordination and collaboration between neurotrauma researchers, clinicians, facilities, and projects. To achieve this aim the VNI has developed a set of strategic goals to guide its’ activities.

To achieve these goals, the VNI has developed a range of funding initiatives including a substantial body of research projects, research programs, capacity building initiatives, and numerous support activities. Ultimately, the VNI aims to improve the outcomes for people suffering from the effects of neurotrauma and establish the Victorian research sector as a global leader in neurotrauma research and development.

To further connections locally and internationally, the VNI has also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation based in Toronto, Canada. The relationship has already produced results with a number of Ontarian researchers actively collaborating with their Victorian counterparts.
Finally, the VNI has defined its strategic vision for 2005 - 2010:

That by June 2010, the VNI will be a responsive, sustainable funding agency supporting high quality, collaborative research that positively impacts the lives of those affected by neurotrauma.
